Wai has been an Interstitial Long Disease (ILD) Clinical Nurse Specialist in Guy’s & St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust since 2016. She is the only ILD nurse and works full- time. She is responsible for the development of the ILD nursing service. She provides support for ILD patients in both in-patient and outpatient settings. She delivers three nurse led supportive care clinics a week providing drug monitoring, symptom management, ambulatory oxygen assessment, psychosocial assessment and end of life support to ILD patients. She also supports a telephone helpline service. She set up the Guy’s & St Thomas’ Pulmonary Fibrosis Patient Support Group in 2017 and has also collaborated with Breathe Art in setting up the Singing for Breathing Group at the beginning of this year.
Wai has nursing experience both in the UK and abroad (HK). She also has extensive experience in respiratory nursing in different settings, from acute setting to community. She worked in critical care for 10 years and also worked as a junior respiratory nurse in a district general hospital. Wai also has experience in setting up new services such as the community matron service in Hertford, caring for patients with long-term conditions such as COPD & ILD; the East & North Herts Home Oxygen Assessment and Review Service. It was during her managing the HOSAR service that she developed a strong interest in ILD nursing Wai is an independent nurse prescriber. She has a BSC in Critical Care Nursing and is currently studying at Master Level and has completed modules on ILD and Non-Medical Prescribing.
Wai is a member of the ILD Interdisciplinary Network and Association of Respiratory Nursing. She has been a committee member of ILD Interdisciplinary Network since October, 2018
