New Job – Clinical Nurse Specialist ILD – Respiratory Medicine

Clinical Nurse Specialist ILD – Respiratory Medicine Band 7 at Guys and St Thomas’ Hospital

Salary: £45,780-£51,393

Location: Guys and St Thomas’ Hospital (Cross Site), London

An exciting opportunity has arisen to appoint a highly motivated registered nurse with proven clinical skills in respiratory nursing to join a well-developed and supportive multidisciplinary ILD team within a nationally commissioned service. We work closely with colleagues at Kings Hospital with a tertiary referral service known as Kings Health Partners (KHP-ILD service).

All clinic and work will be based on both the Guy’s and St Thomas’s sites and a proposed merger between Guy’s & St Thomas’s and The Royal Brompton Hospital brings the possibility of the two ILD teams working closely together in the future.

This role requires the post holder to have demonstrable specialist clinical and management skills related to holistically caring for this patient group with a special interest in patients living with interstitial lung disease

The KHP-ILD service covers a wide range of ILDs with approximately 30 clinics per week. As a specialist practitioner you will review patients within both in-patient and ambulatory settings providing advice and treatment, oxygen therapy service, pulmonary rehabilitation program and manage your own time in your independently run clinics.

You will be working alongside the MDT to complete a holistic assessment of your patients and will agree a plan of treatment or care with the patient at the heart of the decision making process. In addition you will be required to contribute to the education of ward and community staff to enhance knowledge and current management of respiratory diseases, including monitoring of long term and ambulatory oxygen, advising and administering specific drugs used in interstitial lung diseases, including infusions and advise on non-pharmacological methods for symptom control.

The role also requires you to support patients with palliative needs, advising and supporting patients and their families and liaising closely with community palliative care services to ensure continuity of care.

This role will enable you to transfer, apply and develop your nursing knowledge and skills to ensure that the quality of care and the needs of adults with pulmonary disease are met in accordance to current national and Trust guidelines.

You must be organised, confident, have experience of managing junior members of staff and have excellent communication skills to enable you to liaise effectively with the multi-disciplinary team and work with a diverse and varied group of patients and carers. There is scope to be integral in developing the service further e.g. collaborative working with community services, setting up/working with patient support groups, managing a telephone clinic for follow up appointments. There will also be the opportunity to be involved with the ILD research pathway that is actively growing in this department.

Experience in an ambulatory setting is not essential but evidence of your clinical skills, experience and a willingness to learn must be demonstrable.

Deadline: 10am on Sunday 3rd January 2021

Interviews: w/c 18 January 2021

Expected Start: Early Spring 2021
