Conal Hayton

Dr Conal Hayton is a consultant respiratory physician with a specialist interest in interstitial lung disease (ILD) at Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust where he is also the ILD Research Lead. He is an Honorary Senior Lecturer at the University of Manchester. Dr Hayton trained in the North West and was awarded a PhD in ILD from the University of Manchester in 2022.  His research interests are breath biomarkers in ILD and interstitial lung abnormalities (ILAs).

Sabrina Bajwah

Dr Sabrina Bajwah is a Clinical Reader at King’s College London and Consultant in Palliative Medicine. Dr Bajwah was a member of the NICE Quality Standards Committee for IPF and a member of the BTS Emergency Oxygen Guideline Group and IPF clinical and research advisory committees. She has published guidance for the European Respiratory Society on management ILD palliative care needs and American Thoracic Society on Patient Centred Outcomes in ILD. She runs the first and largest ILD palliative care clinic in the UK, whilst continuing to drive forward respiratory palliative care research nationally and internationally

Andy Bright

Andy Bright is the Community Fundraising Officer at Action for Pulmonary Fibrosis (APF).In his role, he travels across the UK engaging with support groups, healthcare professionals, faith communities, and local organisations to raise awareness of pulmonary fibrosis.Andy works closely with fundraisers, supporting them at events and sharing the real-life impact of PF through speeches and community engagement.Drawing on his own experience with pulmonary fibrosis and life after a double lung transplant, Andy remains deeply connected to the PF community, ensuring their voices and stories are heard. He left a career in adult social care to dedicate his time to APF, inspired by the support he received and motivated to help further the organisation’s mission.He has been married for 39 years, has three children, seven grandchildren, four cats and supports Aston Villa

Hannah Long

Hannah Long is Team Lead for the RESPS service, where she has specialised in respiratory care since 2012. A physiotherapist since 2008, she has extensive experience in acute and long-term respiratory management and service development. She established the Sussex Integrated Respiratory Care Network, which brings together professionals across the region and hosts annual training events. Hannah is passionate about advancing integrated respiratory care and improving outcomes for people living with long-term respiratory conditions.

Maria Kokosi

Dr Maria Kokosi is consultant in respiratory medicine at the Royal Brompton and Guy’s Hospitals. Her specialist interest is in Interstitial Lung Diseases, in particular rare lung disorders such as cystic diseases and pulmonary alveolar proteinosis. She leads the service for the rare cystic lung diseases as part of the Cystic Lung Disease Rare Disease Collaborative Network (RDCN). She is actively involved in research and is the principal investigator in clinical trials in rare disorders. She is co-investigator for the LifeArc Centre for rare respiratory diseases. Her focus is the provision of expert clinical care and the development of diagnostic and treatment algorithms and clinical trials.

Rasleen Kahai

Rasleen (Ras) Kahai is a Highly Specialist Respiratory Dietitian at Royal Brompton Hospital (part of Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust). Graduating from King’s College London, Ras led the first known research on dietetic care for malnourished patients with ILD. She also runs a respiratory dietetic support group nationwide. Ras sits on Council of Healthcare Professionals for Asthma + Lung UK and is also a trustee for the Alexandra Rose Charity which provides families on low incomes access to fresh fruit & vegetables.

Nazia Chaudhuri

Dr Nazia Chaudhuri is a respiratory physician with a specialist interest in interstitial lung disease (ILD). She is senior clinical lecturer at Ulster University and is lead of the Northern Ireland ILD network. She is chair of the British Thoracic Society (BTS) ILD registry working group and was chair of the BTS interstitial and rare lung disease specialist advisory group from Nov 2020 to 2023. She is also a member of the European Respiratory Society (ERS) ILD long range planning committee, an ERS ILD mentor and has just been appointed as the secretary of the ERS idiopathic interstitial pneumonia ILD assembly. She is on the Irish Thoracic Society council and ILD working group. She is a trustee of the patient charity Pulmonary Fibrosis Northern Ireland (PFNI) and the NI rare disease partnership. She graduated from the University of Leeds with an honours degree in medicine and a BSc honours in genetics. She performed a PhD and published her work looking at the cellular interactions and signalling in response to infection and air pollution. She is the principal investigator on a number of clinical research trials (>20 over 5 years) in idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) and was the UK Chief Investigator of a major clinical trial on progressive ILDs and a trial in IPF. She is collaborator on a number of grants exceeding £5 million. She is also co-applicant for a British Lung foundation grant for a study in Sarcoidosis. Dr Chaudhuri has published her experience in prescribing antifibrotics and delivering MDT care and has presented over 40 abstracts pertaining to IPF, antifibrotics and the importance of a multi-disciplinary team approach at all major respiratory conferences. Joshua Burrough

Specialism: Respiratory Physiologist

Joshua is a Highly Specialised Clinical Scientist with a special interest in Interstitial Lung Disease. At Wythenshawe Hospital’s North West Lung Centre he works closely with one of the country’s biggest specialised ILD teams, performing diagnostic and disease monitoring assessments with our patients. He is a keen patient advocate as well as having a longstanding passion for clinical research both in the respiratory field and other areas of medicine. Alongside his clinical role and ILD-IN commitments, he has a particular interest in education and training development. He is an honorary lecturer and teaching lead for the national Practitioner and Scientist Training Programmes and as part of his commitment to clinical excellence, he has recently completed the Mary Seacole Leadership Programme with the NHS Academy. He joined the ILD-IN with the hope of providing scientific input to the network as we help to shape and influence the direction of ILD care within the UK. The role of clinical scientists is often greatly under recognised and he hopes to raise awareness of the key part we play in the ILD patient pathway. He is originally from Newcastle and the Geordie accent seems to be his most widely recognised trait (aside from the mighty Newcastle United Football Club).
