Theresa Garfoot is an ILD specialist pharmacist working at Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust (MFT). MFT is one of only 2 specialist ILD centres in the North West able to prescribe antifibrotics for patients with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF). She has spent 2 years establishing a new pharmacy service to the ILD team at Wythenshawe Hospital and led the development of immunosuppression clinics for ILD patients. The service involves the counselling, prescribing and monitoring of these patients. She has established shared care for immunosuppression, better streamlining the process for these patients who are referred from all over the North West, Cumbria and North Wales. Her role also includes clinical assessment of new ILD referrals on a day-case unit and providing counselling on treatments, choice of medication, and providing support and monitoring.
Theresa graduated in 1998 with a BSc (Hons) in Pharmacy from The University of Manchester and qualified in 1999 following a pre-registration year at Withington and Wythenshawe Hospitals. In 2001 she then went on to complete a clinical pharmacy diploma at Belfast University. She has an extensive respiratory background and worked for several years as respiratory pharmacy lead for the trust. She previously provided a service to the respiratory wards and directorate, managed the respiratory pharmacy team, completed the non-medical prescribing course in 2015 and began specialising in ILD in 2016.
